This book has been highly recommended to me by a friend struggling to understand the way he was raised. I sampled the book on Amazon and found interesting information that could apply to many of us directly and indirectly.
The book's intro (page 2) gives some of the following paraphrased examples:
___ Has your parent confided in you, perhaps with inappropriate details and expected you to keep the secret or side with her?
___ Has your parent treated you like an adult instead of a child, expecting you to do the cooking, cleaning and nurturing of other siblings and herself?
___ Were you were not permitted to express strong emotions, specifically anger?
___ Were you held to high, often unattainable standards? Often those standards shifted and you had a hard time knowing what was expected of you?
___ Do you expect the worst from family, friends, and strangers?
___ Feel uneasy about success or have a difficulty simply enjoying life?
__ Fear taking risks? Especially where relationships are concerned?
Very interesting perspective, some relatable for many of us, some a little extreme - but still true to life.
